Our Story
Chapitre 1
2026
A company born from a simple observation
The end of life of plastics has become a major issue.
Designed to be strong and durable, single-use plastic packaging is not compatible with natural cycles and accumulates in the environment.
Biowrap was born from a clear ambition: to design a high-performance alternative that can disappear without polluting.
Chapter 2
2017
The birth of the first Biowrap film
After several months of research, we developed BHC® film, a compostable routing film designed for packaging newspapers, journals, and magazines.
Lighter than conventional plastic, it biodegrades and mineralizes in less than six months.
A breakthrough in an industry long dominated by plastic.
Chapitre 3
2016 - 2020
• Innovation driving impact
To reduce our clients’ carbon footprint, we are launching several research and development projects.
These years mark Biowrap’s diversification with pioneering products:
• Protective covers for furniture (in collaboration with GL Events),
• Pallet covers for logistics and industrial use,
• Transparent shrink BHC film for packaging industry players,
• BIOSOIL® dog waste bags ,certified compostable for municipalities.
Chapter 4
2019 - 2021
Reinventing ourselves in the face of change.
In 2019, the AGEC law accelerated the ecological transition.
Its implementation mandates the phase-out of single-use plastic packaging— even compostable — in the graphic arts sector by 2025.
Biowrap’s historic market is directly impacted.
At the same time, the COVID-19 crisis caused a collapse in the mailing and direct distribution sector.
We must reinvent ourselves.
Chapter 5
2016 - 2021
A technological quest
Since our beginnings, a paradox has troubled us:
Our environmentally friendly films were still packaged using polluting plastic.
Alongside Laurent Massacrier, a specialist in bioplastics, we launched a series of intensive research efforts.
Five years of trials, failures, and constant reassessment… leading up to the major breakthrough of 2021:
Biowrap Stretch® (FE23) – Europe’s first 100% biocompostable stretch film, delivering the same level of mechanical strength as a polyethylene film.
No pollution. No microplastics. No compromise.
Chapter 6
2021 - 2024
Excellence as a driving force
For four years, we continued investing to go even further:
A stronger, more stable, more transparent film,
and with mechanical properties equivalent to those of fossil-based plastics.
Our goal: to prove that a compostable product can be environmentally friendly and even outperform a conventional polyethylene product.
Chapter 7
2025
Launch of a new era
In 2025, the Barthe Group decided to invest in and fully acquire the Biowrap Stretch (FE23) patent.
This acquisition marks a major industrial turning point.
It gives Biowrap the strength of an established group and a long-term vision to accelerate the development of Biowrap Stretch.
Beyond Biowrap, the ambition is clear: to structure the compostable market, educate stakeholders, and establish a new standard in industrial packaging.
A conviction guides this new chapter: compostable is no longer an alternative, it is the future.
